The raising of Lazarus brought on the killing of Jesus because after learning of this miracle, the religious leaders joined forces to bring about the death of Jesus – “ Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council … Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death” (11:47 & 53). But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done” (11:43-46) And he that was dead came forth… Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead was done in front of witnesses and some of the Jews who saw Jesus raise him from the dead and some went and told this to the Pharisees – “… he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.So, note these key facts about that event which are recorded in the 11th and 12th chapter of the fourth gospel: “Lazarus, come forth.” With those words Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and the miracle of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead is, arguably, the preeminent public miracle of Jesus’ earthly ministry.
